Letter From Laborers Local One Business Manager and Executive Board

March 20, 2020 - Action

Brothers and Sisters,

Our most important concern is the health of our membership. In accordance with the Center for Disease Control’s guidelines for addressing the threat of Coronavirus in the workplace, Laborers’ Local One will be taking precautions to ensure the health and safety of the membership and staff.

Recognizing the severity and highly contagious nature of the Coronavirus and the risk of COVIS-19 poses to our membership, General President, Terry O’Sullivan has granted a constitutional variance authorizing District Council and Local Union Business Managers to cancel future delegate and membership meetings. We have attached that letter.

Laborers’ Local One concurs with the General President on taking these precautions. As Business Manager of Laborers’ Local One as well as the Executive Board, we are cancelling the April monthly membership meeting. Our nominations will still go on as planned. As President O’Sullivan stated in the letter, this is an evolving situation and the issue will be revisited later this month with regards to future meetings.

Furthermore, Laborers’ Local One will be closed to walk-ins. We are implementing a temporary policy to restrict visitors from the local office. We will follow the CDC’s guidelines for addressing the situation by keeping our doors locked for two weeks. We will still be available by phone. Members can pay their dues online, over the phone or by mail. The out of work list will also be extended through this period; no one will be removed from the list. Please call the office if you want to be put on the out of work list.

The Laborer’s District Council and Laborer’s Training Center are also closed during this time. Laborers’ Local One will remain vigilant to ensure the health of our membership and staff. It is imperative you do the same. As always, we will make every effort to accommodate members’ needs. We will revisit the issue in the upcoming months.

Thank you and be safe.
